To get the best advice for your personal situation the best bet is to talk to your doctor or to take a diabetes management class. Most classes last from a couple of hours to one day and are covered by many insurance plans. For general advice check out the American Diabetes Association website. They have two sets of diet information. One for someone who needs to lose weight while controlling their blood sugar and one for someone who is at an optimal weight and just needs help keeping their blood sugar under control. The ADA weight loss site is: diabetes.org/ food-nutrition-lifestyle/ lifestyle-prevention/ weight-loss.jsp My Food Adviser will help with general diabetes meal planning: diabetes.org/ food-nutrition-lifestyle/ nutrition/ my-food-advisor.jsp Your public library should also have resources available to help you. Hi, I am reading a couple of 250 page books, and they explain a lot. I don't type fast, so forgive me for not putting in all the information. Dr. Barnard's Program for Reversing Diabetes The PH Miracle for Diabetes by Dr. Young Both books give out great diet tips. I also picked up Acid Alkaline Food Guide, because I know that people would start to ask me "Is oranges acidic " and I wanted to give them a intelligent answer, not look stupid and open my mouth and prove it. BTW, while oranges and lemons are acidic, once digested, they will make the body more alkaline, thus they are very good for you. Yet a doctor told me that my throat was bothering me because I was probably drinking to much fresh orange juice, so moderation please! I loved the stuff, so was drinking about 1/ 2 gallon a week. Dr. Young writes that becoming more alkaline will make the insulin in your body much more effective. Dr, Barnard blames diabetes on eating to much meat, and says that eating to much animal fats makes the blood more viscous (thicker) and leads to high blood pressure and heart disease. I know someone that has been drinking 9.0 PH water for about a month, and cut his diabetes medications by more than 1/ 2. I will see him today, and start to give his friends the water, so they can cut their medications too. Best of luck to you. PS: How about oatmeal for breakfast. Add 1/ 4 teaspoon of cinnamon (tests show cinnamon is good for you - it is in the book) Add apple to sweeten it. Make some split pea soup, 1 pound of dried split peas, 8 cups of water, 1 small onion, and some pepper. Add another 1/ 2 pound of lentils and 4 more cups of water is my sister's tip. Cook for 5 hours in a crock pot, and serve. Save the leftovers for low calorie lunch or dinner. This has no animal fat, 0 cholesterol, and is really good for you. Also bake sweet potatoes. Peal and serve with cinnamon. Skip the sugars, butter, or anything else. I make mine in the microwave. Cook about 2 minutes, then they are easy to puncture with a fork, to let the steam out, then cook another 3-6 minutes, until the center is soft. Larger ones I remove both ends as it gets soft, but the center is still hard. You can bake a large pan in the oven faster, if you are serving more people. You can also peal, cut into wedges, and then bake in the oven. Makes something like french fries, but they are good for the diabetic. Russet potatoes have a much higher glycemic index, thus are not as good for a diabetic. Skip milk and dairy products, especially cheese. (my friend hated to hear skip the cheese, he really liked it, but sees his blood sugar stable now, and is happier). My guess is cheese adds to the acids in the system, and the more acidic you are, the less effective the insulin is (according to Dr. Young). Watch the video below. In Japan, they developed a alkaline water machine that makes 2.4 PH water that can kill bacteria on contact and also make 8.5 PH alkaline water, that let teh subject in the video to save his feet from gangrene. In America, the doctors will advice amputating gangrene as soon as possible - just the same thing they recommended during the Cival War! However in Japan, they have found that bacteria can be killed with water, not pennicillin. In one month, he cut his diabetes medication from 15 untis to only 10 units per day by drinking alkaline water, and he walked out of the hospital with both feet, healthy again. Happy New Year !

Eating what you want to eat, and keeping your sugars healthy. Restricting things from your diet only leads to people getting irritated, pigging out, and unhappy. You must learn to eat what keeps you happy and healthy. Talk to a specialist, and work out things that will keep you happy, You can't spend the rest of your life on a diet.

A low Glycemic index diet. More meats and Veggies. Plus a moderate amount of Fruits. Here's a website for a good Glycemic Index and Load. mendosa.com/ gilists.htm This table includes the glycemic index and glycemic load of more than 2,480 individual food items. Not all of them, however, are available in the United States. They represent a true international effort of testing around the world. The glycemic index (GI) is a numerical system of measuring how much of a rise in circulating blood sugar a carbohydrate triggers–the higher the number, the greater the blood sugar response. So a low GI food will cause a small rise, while a high GI food will trigger a dramatic spike. A list of carbohydrates with their glycemic values is shown below. A GI is 70 or more is high, a GI of 56 to 69 inclusive is medium, and a GI of 55 or less is low. The glycemic load (GL) is a relatively new way to assess the impact of carbohydrate consumption that takes the glycemic index into account, but gives a fuller picture than does glycemic index alone. A GI value tells you only how rapidly a particular carbohydrate turns into sugar. It doesn't tell you how much of that carbohydrate is in a serving of a particular food. You need to know both things to understand a food's effect on blood sugar. That is where glycemic load comes in. The carbohydrate in watermelon, for example, has a high GI. But there isn't a lot of it, so watermelon's glycemic load is relatively low. A GL of 20 or more is high, a GL of 11 to 19 inclusive is medium, and a GL of 10 or less is low. Foods that have a low GL almost always have a low GI. Foods with an intermediate or high GL range from very low to very high GI. Both GI and GL are listed here. The GI is of foods based on the glucose index–where glucose is set to equal 100. The other is the glycemic load, which is the glycemic index divided by 100 multiplied by its available carbohydrate content (i.e. carbohydrates minus fiber) in grams. (The "Serve size (g) " column is the serving size in grams for calculating the glycemic load; for simplicity of presentation I have left out an intermediate column that shows the available carbohydrates in the stated serving sizes.) Take, watermelon as an example of calculating glycemic load. Its glycemic index is pretty high, about 72. According to the calculations by the people at the University of Sydney's Human Nutrition Unit, in a serving of 120 grams it has 6 grams of available carbohydrate per serving, so its glycemic load is pretty low, 72/ 100*6= 4.32, rounded to 4.Also: Use ¼ to ½ teaspoon of cinnamon per day. Add it to your coffee, oatmeal, smoothie, or wherever you find it palatable. If you already suffer from diabetes, be sure to stay on a regular schedule with your cinnamon usage so that your blood sugar levels don't yo-yo.Use the same amount at the same time every day so that you can get a sense of how cinnamon affects your own personal blood sugar readings. Use the powdered spice or a cinnamon stick. Cinnamon pills are also available, and can be found easily via an online search. MHCP is water soluble and is not found in cinnamon oil. Lime and lemon juice delay the digestion of starches as does vinegar. I've found that 2-3 tablespoons of lime or lemon juice reduces my post prandial BG response by 10-20 points. Rick Mendosa's site has a lot of material on acids in the diet. Take a look at mendosa.com/ acidic_foods.htm . Good Luck

There truly isnt a diabetic diet anymore. You just need to eat healthy. It also depends on if you are speaking of type 1 or type 2 diabetes. With type 1, you use insulin to treat the carbohydrates you take in. You can eat anything you want as long as you treat the carbs with your insulin. With type 2, you usually use pills because your body doesnt use the insulin correctly, you usually try to limit your really sugary foods and carbohydrat dense foods... Hope this helps you out.. Lol , good question. ask 2 dietitians , you'll get 2 answers. my opinion is counting carbs. low fat , low sodium. meal 50-75 carbs , snack around 15 carbs. breakfast , snack , lunch snack , dinner , snack. evenly spacing snacks between meals. definitelyy have that last snack about 1 hour b4 bed, to make sure you don't drop so low while u sleep , that you'll not wake or wake groggily.
